Delivery robot

Kiwibot (2017–2024) was a leading autonomous last-mile delivery robot platform, operating across more than 50 locations, including 30+ university campuses worldwide, with a fleet of over 600 robots. Since 2017, I had the privilege of shaping its DNA—from the first concept sketches to mass production. More than building technology, my goal was to create an empathetic robotic experience.

The journey began in 2017, working closely with CEO Felipe Chávez and a lean startup team in Berkeley to redefine the future of autonomous logistics.

Relocating from Colombia to California, we entered UC Berkeley’s prestigious SkyDeck Accelerator to design and engineer Kiwibot’s very first character-driven prototype. Bridging the gap between concept and reality required moving fast on a global scale; we traveled to Shenzhen, China, embedding ourselves in the world’s hardware capital to spearhead our first official production batch. This foundational sprint successfully transitioned us from handcrafted models to a scalable, functional fleet.

With manufacturing established, the focus shifted to refining human-robot interaction. This era birthed the Kiwibot Classic, which subsequently evolved into the iF Design Award-winning Kiwibot+ concept.

It was a design that beautifully balanced pedestrian safety with a friendly, empathetic digital face. The industry took notice: this version went on to win the prestigious iF Design Award, proving that hardware could be highly functional while evoking a genuine human connection. We followed this triumph by engineering the Kiwibot 4—the most versatile, advanced, and ruggedized iteration of our campus delivery fleet to date—operating seamlessly across more than 30 international campuses.

As our technological infrastructure matured, we looked beyond the sidewalk. We began developing specialized form factors to tackle complex logistics.

We developed Cargo Robot—a heavy-duty autonomous vehicle built for high-capacity shifting. My role naturally expanded during this time, stepping up to lead the multidisciplinary Design and Marketing teams to align our rapidly growing physical ecosystem with a cohesive, global brand strategy.

We are officially launching our most ambitious chapter: Robot.com. We are no longer just a last-mile delivery company; we are redefining how autonomous machines are built, scaled, and integrated into society.

We are officially launching our most ambitious chapter: Robot.com. We are no longer just a last-mile delivery company; we are redefining how autonomous machines are built, scaled, and integrated into society.

Robot.com represents our evolution from a singular campus delivery service into a comprehensive autonomous hardware infrastructure platform. Leveraging nearly a decade of real-world field data, proprietary AI core technology, and deep manufacturing expertise, we are expanding beyond the sidewalk to redefine human-robot coexistence across multiple industries. This new chapter is driven by a diverse, multi-terrain fleet engineered for the real world: R-Noid: Our highly advanced, expressive bipedal/wheeled humanoid designed for complex human environments. R-Dog: A robust, agile quadruped engineered for dynamic terrain and industrial inspection. R-Cargo / R-M1: Heavy-duty, high-capacity autonomous transport modules built for enterprise logistics. R-Kiwi: The iconic sidewalk delivery robot that started it all, optimized for hyper-local last-mile logistics. What began in 2017 as a single, ambitious prototype in a Berkeley accelerator has evolved into an expansive ecosystem of intelligent machines—permanently shaping how society interacts with automation.

A project of this magnitude is never built alone. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible community of founders, engineers, coworkers, and the hundreds of talented individuals who made this wonderful decade-long experience possible. Collaborating with such brilliant minds has permanently transformed my vision of country, community, and design. These years have been a masterclass in raw craft—pushing past the absolute limits of what was thought possible in hardware and robotics. I am profoundly proud of the ecosystem we have built together, scaling an ambitious vision from Colombia to the entire world. Thank you for trusting me, inspiring me, and letting me design the future alongside you. Alejo.
